Pats News Now in Portuguese!

New England Patriots Brazil is the latest edition to our rapidly growing list of overseas fan clubs. The club's founder is 19-year old Gustavo Alkmin. He operated an all-Patriots blog in Portuguese from his home in Brazil for over a year before he found The Registry and made it official.

"I'm studying computer engineering at a federal college in Brazil named UNIFEI [Universidade Federal de Itajubá]," he explianed in a recent interview. "I became a Patriots fan in 2004 when I watched a game in a friend's house and decided to join the Patriots legion. Last year, after I started to really [follow] the season, I realized that Brazil's fans need more information in Portuguese. I decided to create the Patriots Brasil blog."

The blog's anniversary was March 12, and Alkmin says he believes it was the first team-specific NFL blog in Portuguese.

"My blog was the first one about a specific team in [the] NFL," he said. "Today there are many other blogs about the other teams, but ours is still the only one for Patriots fans."

In 2008, Alkmin and some of his readers finally got to meet up when playoff games aired in Brazil. He's hoping more Patriots games will air on ESPN Brasil this year. Most of his club's members are on the southeast side of the country, he says, and they'll be nailing down a meeting place in São Paulo soon. In the meantime, check out the blog!
